Members of the Democratic Party have called for the Basic Law to be amended in a bid to tackle the rising number of mainland women coming to Hong Kong to give birth. Several party members took their demands to government headquarters at Tamar on Saturday They want the Basic Law amended, so that children of mainland parents would not have right of abode in Hong Kong, even if they're born here. They also said hospitals should only accept bookings for local pregnant women. A rising number of mainland women giving birth in the territory has put pressure on obstetrics services at both public and private hospitals in recent years. The Chief Executive, Donald Tsang, has made the issue one of his top priorities.
